Gas Prices were very low compared to today's standards. Also notice that there were no 9/10ths like there is today. You also had an attendant to fill your tank, wash your windshield, and check your oil. For the most part, there were no credit cards back then and you needed cash to buy gas. They did have "Tabs" at the local grocery stores, howerver, and you were able to defer payment until "payday" rolled around.
