26 January 1942Small Grocery Stores like this one
were very common in the 1940's. Most of us walked to school and
I passed two such grocery stores on the way and we often stopped
to get penny candy. Also notice the ads for chewing tobacco
which would be a rare sight today. My Dad smoked all of his
life........died from it. We lived in a Steel Town "Youngstown,
Ohio" and most of the folks who lived there worked in the steel
mills.
